I’m a huge chocolate lover, so when I found out about the option to go on a chocolate tour at Blue Osa, I jumped at the chance. There was just no way I could turn down the opportunity to try raw, organic Costa Rican chocolate.

In my mind, I was picturing that we would be going to some chocolate manufacturer or an indoor factory, but I had no idea what was in store for us. When we pulled up to Finca Kobo, I was blown away. I quickly realized this isn’t just any old chocolate factory.

The next two hours proved to be a magical experience through the jungle were we learned about the production of raw chocolate from seed to mouth!

The tour guide started out by walking us through their secondary forests were we tried star fruits, lemons (they were super sour), lychees, and white pineapple.

We even tried fresh coconut juice and learned how to cut open a coconut. (A good thing to know how to do, in case you need to survive the jungle one day!)

We learned how some jungle fruits are used as body paint.

Then, we learned about the entire chocolate making experience, all based on the ancient cacao agricultural process used during the Mayan empire.

Last but not least, we were treated to an amazing chocolate fest in the middle of the jungle, which included some of the best chocolate I’ve ever had.

(Dang! I miss that chocolate right now!)
